When you think about uses for medical marijuana, diabetes isn’t usually at the top of anyone’s list.

Diabetes can cause severe and chronic pain in the arms, hands, legs and feet. Diabetic leg pain can be debilitating. The pain is the result of nerve damage caused by damaged blood vessels that carry oxygen to the body, inflamed nerves and high glucose levels in the blood over a prolonged period.

According to the NIH, 60-70% of all diabetics suffer from some form of diabetic nerve pain, or neuropathy. Typical treatment can include prescription pain relievers along with medicines that are more commonly used to treat depression.

The problem? A cocktail of prescription drugs can do more harm than good, especially when we’re talking about mood as it relates to brain chemistry.

Cannabis to the Rescue

Like most chronic pain sufferers, diabetics who experience this kind of pain are simply prescribed pain killers and sent on their way.

However, more and more diabetics are turning to medical marijuana as an alternative to pain prescriptions that often leave them feeling foggy, tired and can lead to serious drug addictions.

Cannabis works well for diabetic nerve pain because of its strong anti-inflammatory properties that help to counteract inflamed nerves as well its pain relieving properties.

A Non-Obvious Solution for Diabetic Leg Pain

But, not all diabetics want to smoke cannabis to get the benefits. That’s why cannabis infused topicals that diabetics can simply apply directly to their pain points are growing in popularity.

So, when we received the following note from one of our users, we just had to share it:

“I went on my usual weekly dispensary visit and the girl at the counter noticed I was in total pain from my legs. I am diabetic and my leg pains usually start 4 hours into work. She gave me a tiny jar of Sweet Releaf to try. I thought “Ok, why not?” since smoking medical pot isn’t working very well on me due to my high tolerance. That night I used it.

When I stood the pain in my legs was bearable. Bearable to the point where I was excited and actually hopped on my foot! My pain went from a 10 to a 4 in minutes! THANK YOU!!! I hope to go back in a day or so just for the Sweet Releaf. And the smell is so pleasant and relaxing. No over-waxy feeling, no sticky feeling, no harsh medical smell. Thank you SO much!”
